Robert Kloss was born on the 21th of July 1889 in Ölmütz in today's Czech Republic. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, in Praha at the Kunstakademie from 1911 to 1912 (his teacher was Franz Thiele), in Leipzig, Germany in 1913 and in Paris in 1914. In 1920 Kloss became a member of the artist group Hagenbund in Vienna. His favorite motifs were nude portraits, animal paintings and still lifes with flowers, which he always painted in a very modern style and in colors if high contrast and luminosity.
